  • A prayer for doing good to all people, especially to believers 2026-10-11

Loving God, we gather in your presence this day, the Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity, as the season of Ordinary Time continues to call us to live out our faith in the world. Inspired by the wisdom of Scripture, we acknowledge our dependence on your Holy Spirit to guide our hearts and direct our actions. As we prepare to offer our prayers, help us to listen to your word and to discern your will for us, that our lives may bring glory to your name.

We pray for the whole Church, that all believers may be strengthened in their faith and encouraged to live out the Gospel in their daily lives. We pray for those who lead and serve within the Church, that they may be filled with wisdom, courage, and compassion, and that their ministries may bear abundant fruit. We pray for unity among all Christians, that by our love for one another we may show the world the reality of your kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the nations of the world, for peace and reconciliation in places of conflict, and for justice and equity for all people. We pray for all those in authority, for our Sovereign King Charles, for our government, and for all leaders in local and international affairs, that they may govern with wisdom, integrity, and a deep concern for the welfare of all your creation. We pray for our planet, that we may be good stewards of its resources, caring for the environment and all living things. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our parish and diocese, for all who live and work in our local area. Bless our schools, our businesses, and our public services. We pray for those who are seeking work, for those who feel isolated, and for all who are struggling. May our community be a place where all feel valued, supported, and know the embrace of your love. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who are suffering in body, mind, or spirit. We remember those who are ill, those who are grieving, those who are lonely or afraid, and those who are in any kind of need. We pray especially for those on our parish prayer list: [Insert names, or pause for silent reflection]… May they know your healing presence, your comfort, and your peace, and may they experience your strength in their weakness. We also pray for those who care for them, that they may be sustained and find strength in their service. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We commend to your loving care all those who have recently died and all whose anniversaries fall at this time. We pray that they may rest in peace and rise in glory, and that we, who remain, may be sustained by the hope of eternal life with you. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Sovereign Lord, we have brought before you the needs of your Church and of all your people. Receive these prayers, and grant us the grace to be your hands and feet in the world, doing good to all as you have commanded. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
