  • A prayer for God's search and guidance 2026-10-30

Loving God, as we gather in your presence, we open ourselves to your searching light. In this Ordinary Time, we pray that your Word will shape our hearts and minds, and that we may grow in hope and faith. Guide us now as we bring our prayers before you, trusting in your unending love.

Heavenly Father, we come before you today, humbled by the depth of your knowledge and the breadth of your love, echoing the Psalmist’s cry: "Search me, God, and know my heart." We ask you to illuminate the hidden corners of our lives, to reveal any anxious thoughts or hidden fears that hold us captive. Grant us the courage to face ourselves in the light of your truth, knowing that in your sight, we are known and loved.

We pray for your Church throughout the world. May your Spirit search our hearts and reveal where we have become complacent or self-serving. Inspire us with a renewed passion for your gospel and a steadfast commitment to proclaiming your truth, even when it is difficult. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all those in authority, for leaders in government, business, and community. May your wisdom guide their decisions and search their hearts for integrity and justice. Protect them from corruption and self-interest, and inspire them to serve your people with compassion and humility. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our local community. Search our streets and homes, O God, and reveal where there is need, loneliness, or division. Help us to reach out to our neighbours with open hearts and hands, offering comfort, support, and the good news of your love. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all those who suffer, whether in body, mind, or spirit. Search their hearts, O God, and let them know your peace that surpasses all understanding. Bring healing to the sick, comfort to the grieving, and hope to the despairing. Sustain those who are anxious and fearful with the knowledge that you are with them always. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for those who have gone before us, marked with the sign of the cross. May they rest in your everlasting peace, and may we be inspired by their lives of faith. Search our memories, O God, and help us to honour their legacy by living faithfully for you. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious God, you know our hearts better than we know ourselves. We offer these prayers with the assurance that you hear us, and that your love is steadfast. Continue to search and refine us, that we may live lives that bring glory to your name. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

  • A prayer for trusting in the Lord and finding blessedness 2026-10-13

Lord, I come before you today, reflecting on your promise in Jeremiah 17:7: ‘But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.’

In this season of Ordinary Time, where we are called to grow and live out your teachings, I am reminded of how easily my confidence can waver. So often, I find myself looking to my own strength, my own plans, or the stability of worldly things. These are like shifting sands, Lord, and they offer no true foundation.

Help me to actively choose trust. Help me to root my confidence in you, not in the circumstances around me, for they are ever-changing. Lord, help me to see you as my constant, my rock, my sure hope. May my reliance on you be not just a thought, but a deep, felt reality that guides my decisions and calms my fears.

Give me the grace to rest in your faithfulness, even when the path ahead is uncertain. Teach me to find my security in your unchanging love, rather than in the fleeting promises of this world. Lord, help me to be a person whose confidence is truly in you, so that I may experience the blessedness you promise. Amen.

Lord, help me to trust you more each day.
