  • A prayer for doing good to all people, especially believers 2026-10-11

Lord, as I reflect on your word today, you call me to action: "As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." This is a simple yet profound instruction. It’s easy to read these words and feel a sense of agreement, but harder to translate them into tangible deeds.

My heart often feels a desire to help, to be generous, to love my neighbour. But then life gets busy, my own concerns take centre stage, and opportunities to do good slip by unnoticed or unseized. Sometimes, fear or doubt creeps in – fear of failure, fear of being taken advantage of, doubt about whether my small efforts even make a difference.

Today, I want to lay those fears and doubts before you. Help me, Lord, to be more aware of the opportunities you place before me each day. Open my eyes to see the needs around me, not just the obvious ones, but the quiet struggles, the unspoken hurts, the chances to offer a word of encouragement, a listening ear, or a practical helping hand.

You have placed me within your family of believers, and your word specifically highlights that we should have a special care for one another. Lord, help me to be a supportive and loving member of your church. May I contribute to the building up of your body, offering grace and support to my brothers and sisters in Christ, celebrating their joys and bearing their burdens.

But your call extends beyond the church walls. "To all people." Help me to extend your love and goodness to everyone I encounter, regardless of their background, beliefs, or circumstances. May my actions be a reflection of your own boundless love and generosity, seeking to bless and serve others without expectation of return.

Lord, help me to overcome my inertia, my selfishness, my anxieties. Give me the courage and wisdom to act when opportunities arise, to speak words that build up, and to offer comfort and practical help. May my life be a testament to your grace, marked by a consistent desire to do good, in whatever way I can, for your glory.

Lord, help me to be a doer of your word, not just a hearer. Amen.
