  • A prayer for rejoicing in truth and opposing evil 2026-10-19

Loving God, you have shown us the way of love in your Son Jesus Christ, and called us to live by its truth. As we gather in your presence this day, open our hearts to your Word and empower us to embody the love that seeks truth and rejoices in it.

For the Church: We pray for all those who serve in your Church, especially for those who proclaim the Gospel and bring healing to your people. We give thanks for the example of Saint Luke the Evangelist, and pray that we, like him, may be faithful witnesses to your truth. Inspire all clergy and lay people to live lives of love and service, demonstrating your kingdom through compassionate action and unwavering truth. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the World and its Leaders: We pray for leaders in all spheres of life, that they may govern with integrity and a deep commitment to truth and justice. Grant wisdom to those who make decisions affecting global communities, that they may work for peace, equity, and the flourishing of all creation. May all nations rejoice in truth and turn away from deceit and corruption. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For Our Local Community: We pray for our parish and our local community. Bless our neighbours and our streets, that we may be a community where truth is spoken in love, and where all feel valued and supported. Strengthen the bonds of fellowship among us, and inspire us to reach out to those in need with genuine care and compassion. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For Those Who Suffer: We pray for all who are suffering, whether in body, mind, or spirit. Grant them solace, healing, and hope. Especially we remember those who have been wronged, deceived, or betrayed, that they may find peace and restoration. Sustain those who care for the sick and vulnerable, that their love may be a reflection of your own enduring truth. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the Departed: We commend to your eternal love all those who have died, especially those we remember with fondness and those whose lives were marked by a commitment to truth. May they be found in your perfect peace, where truth reigns eternally. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

  • A prayer for Seeking Truth and Embodying Love 2026-10-19

Loving God, as we gather today, we give thanks for the gift of your Word, illuminated by the example of your servant Luke. You call us to reflect your truth and to embody your love in a world often darkened by deceit. Stir our hearts to seek what is good, and empower us to speak and act with truth and integrity, following the example of Christ.

We pray for the Church throughout the world, especially for those who serve in ministries of healing and proclamation, following in the footsteps of Luke the Evangelist. May they be filled with your Spirit, that they may speak your truth with clarity and compassion, and bring your healing balm to all in need. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all those in positions of authority, for leaders in government, industry, and our communities. Grant them wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to justice, that they may seek the truth and work for the common good, rejoicing in what is right and true, not in what is deceitful or harmful. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our own parish, for our clergy, staff, and all who worship here. May we be a community that truly embodies your love, speaking truth in love, and rejoicing in all that is good and righteous. Strengthen our bonds of fellowship and inspire us to reach out to our neighbours with genuine care and concern. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit. We commend to your healing touch those who are sick, those who are lonely, those who are oppressed, and all who are struggling with doubt or despair. May they know the truth that sets free and the love that heals, and may they find comfort and hope in your unfailing presence. We especially pray for… Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all those who have died, remembering especially… May they rest in peace, and may we, who remain, be strengthened by their witness to the truth and by the promise of your eternal love. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, we have laid before you the concerns of your Church, your world, and all your people. Mould our hearts and minds to be ever more like Christ, who is the truth and the life. Through the power of your Spirit, help us to rejoice in what is true and good, and to shun all that is evil, now and for evermore. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
