  • A prayer for praying in the Spirit for oneself and all God's people 2026-10-28

Lord, as I approach this time of prayer, I am reminded of your Word in Ephesians 6:18: "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."

Today, I want to focus on what it means to pray in the Spirit, on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers. Sometimes I feel I don’t know how to pray, or that my prayers are not effective. But you promise that the Spirit Himself intercedes for us, helping us to pray according to your will. Help me to open myself to that Spirit today.

Lord, I pray in the Spirit for myself. Help me to be alert to your voice, to discern your will, and to pray with a humble and open heart. Guide my thoughts, my desires, and my words. May my prayers be a true reflection of your heart for me and for the world. Lord, help me to…

I pray in the Spirit for all your people. For those who are struggling, for those who are rejoicing, for those who have yet to know your love. Stir up in me a deep love for them, and a fervent desire to pray for their needs. Remind me to pray for your Church, for its leaders, and for every believer, that we may stand firm in faith and unity. Lord, help me to…

I pray in the Spirit for wisdom and discernment, that I may know how to pray for the specific needs that arise each day. Give me a spirit of perseverance, that I may not grow weary in prayer, but continually bring your people before your throne of grace. Thank you, Lord, that you hear and answer prayers, not according to my limited understanding, but according to your perfect will and boundless love. Lord, help me to…

    Amen.

  • A prayer for Committing Plans to God's Establishment 2026-10-23

Lord, I bring before you all that I do, all that I plan. Sometimes I feel so sure of myself, of my own capabilities, and I forget that true wisdom and success come from you.

You tell me to commit to you whatever I do, and you will establish my plans. That sounds so simple, yet it requires such deep trust. It means letting go of my own pride, my own desire to be in control, and placing my future, my efforts, my very intentions into your hands.

Help me to truly commit to you today, in all my work, in all my relationships, in all my decisions. May I not just go through the motions, but genuinely surrender my plans to your perfect will.

Lord, help me to remember this promise when things feel uncertain, when my plans seem to be faltering. Remind me that it is in committing to you that my efforts are truly established and find their sure foundation.

Show me where I am holding on too tightly, where I am relying on my own strength rather than yours. Help me to release those things into your care.

    Amen.

  • Commit Your Plans to God, and Watch Them Flourish

Do you ever feel like your carefully laid plans are on shaky ground? In a world that often celebrates self-sufficiency and personal ambition, it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing our success hinges solely on our own grit and intellect. But what if there’s a more profound, stable way to approach our aspirations? What if true establishment for our endeavours comes not from our own strength, but from a divine partnership?

The wisdom found in Proverbs offers a profound insight into this very question, reminding us that aligning our plans with God’s will is the surest path to lasting success.

The Power of Entrusting Your Plans to God

The heart of Proverbs 16:3 lies in a simple yet transformative instruction: "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans" (NIV). This isn’t just about asking God to bless what we’ve already decided. It’s a radical invitation to surrender our agenda, our ambitions, and our daily tasks into His capable hands. The Hebrew word for ‘commit’ (gōlal) suggests the action of rolling something over, like placing a heavy burden onto a reliable supporter. It’s an active surrender, an acknowledgement of His supreme authority and wisdom.

Aligning Our Efforts with Divine Purpose

When we commit our plans to the Lord, we’re not opting out of effort; rather, we’re ensuring our efforts are directed by a higher purpose. This means seeking His guidance before we act, ensuring our desires and actions are in harmony with His will. It challenges the modern inclination towards a solely self-reliant approach, urging us instead to integrate our faith into every facet of our lives – from grand life ambitions to the seemingly mundane tasks of each day. This holistic approach acknowledges that God is sovereign over all, not just the "spiritual" aspects of our lives.

    The Promise of Divine Establishment

The promise that follows this commitment – "he will establish your plans" – is powerful. The word ‘establish’ (kûn) implies making firm, secure, and bringing to pass. It suggests a divine ratification, a foundation laid not on shifting sands but on the unshakeable rock of God’s will and power. This establishment isn’t a guarantee against all hardship, but a profound assurance that plans aligned with His purposes will ultimately endure and succeed, often in ways we could never orchestrate on our own. It’s about finding significance and stability not in the outcome alone, but in the faithful process of co-labouring with the One who orchestrates all things.

Beyond Human Ambition: A Deeper Wisdom

The book of Proverbs consistently contrasts the path of the wise, who fear the Lord, with the folly of the self-sufficient. Proverbs 16:3 is a practical outworking of this principle. It calls us to re-evaluate our ambitions: are they primarily self-serving, or are they God-centred? True success, as defined by God, is not just about achieving results but about honouring Him in the process. This requires humility, a willingness to adjust our plans, and contentment in knowing that if our plans are established by God, they are inherently good and for our ultimate well-being and His glory.

Practical Steps for a God-Honouring Life

Embracing Proverbs 16:3 isn’t a one-time decision but an ongoing posture of dependence and trust. It calls for a daily recommitment, integrating faith into every decision and action.

    Actionable Devotion

Before embarking on any significant task today, take a moment to pause. Offer a brief prayer, specifically committing that task to God’s care and guidance. Ask for wisdom, integrity, and for His will to be done through your efforts.

    Reflective Journaling

Consider a specific goal or plan you hold for the near future. Honestly assess how you have committed it to the Lord thus far. What concrete steps can you take today to more fully entrust this plan to His sovereign control and wisdom?

As we navigate our lives and aspirations, let us remember that true establishment comes not from our own power, but from faithfully committing our ways to the Lord. His perfect design and unfailing faithfulness offer a secure foundation for every endeavour.

In what areas of your life might you be holding onto control too tightly, resisting the invitation to truly commit them to God?
