  • A prayer for the unfailing word and sure promises of God 2026-11-07

Faithful God, whose word is truth and whose promises are sure, we gather ourselves in your presence, remembering that with you nothing is impossible. As we reflect on your unfailing promises, revealed in scripture and confirmed in our lives, strengthen our faith and open our hearts to receive your divine purpose. We ask that you would guide our prayers today, that they may be pleasing in your sight.

We pray for the whole Church of Christ, that it may always hold fast to the truth of your Word and faithfully proclaim the Gospel to all nations. We give thanks for the courage and dedication of missionaries past and present, like Saint Willibrord, who have carried your light into the world, trusting in the certainty that "no word from God will ever fail." Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all those in authority in Church and State, that they may be guided by your wisdom and uphold justice and peace. We pray for the leaders of nations, that they may recognise your sovereignty and govern with integrity, knowing that all earthly power is held under your eternal reign. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our local community, that your word may bring transformation and hope. We pray for those working to build bridges between people, for those who share good news of peace and reconciliation, and for all who seek to make your steadfast love known through word and deed. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who suffer in mind, body, or spirit, for those who feel their hopes have failed, and for those who struggle with doubt or despair. Remind them that your word stands firm, that your promises are steadfast, and that you are their strength and their hope, especially those we name now in our hearts… [pause for names or silent reflection]. May they know your healing presence and your enduring peace. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the departed, that they may rest in the eternal peace of your presence, where all your words are fulfilled and all your promises are realised. We give thanks for their lives and for the witness they bore to your enduring faithfulness. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

So we bring these prayers before you, O God, our refuge and strength. Trusting in the unshakeable truth of your Word, we commend ourselves and all your creation to your loving care. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

  • A prayer for Jesus, the Bread of Life, and spiritual sustenance 2026-10-16

Loving God, as we gather in your presence, we reflect on Jesus’ declaration, "I am the bread of life." In this season of Ordinary Time, we pray that our faith may grow and deepen, nourished by your word and sustained by your love. Open our hearts and minds to your truth as we bring our intercessions before you.

We pray for the Church throughout the world, that all who confess Christ as the bread of life may be strengthened in their faith and united in love. We pray for our Bishops, priests and deacons, and for all who serve in your Church, that they may faithfully proclaim your Gospel and lead your people into deeper relationship with you. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all those in authority, for our King, our government, and for leaders in all nations. Grant them wisdom, justice, and compassion, that they may govern with integrity and serve the common good. We pray for an end to conflict and division, and for the establishment of peace and reconciliation in all the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our local community, for our parish, and for all our neighbours. Bless our schools, our businesses, and our homes. May we be a community that shares generously, cares deeply, and welcomes all, reflecting your boundless love. We pray for those who are struggling to find their place, and for those who feel alone. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit. We lift before you those who are ill, those who are grieving, those who are in need, and those who are afraid. May they know the comfort and sustaining power of Christ, the bread of life, and find strength and hope in your unfailing presence. We hold before you, [Insert names of those to be prayed for, or pause for silent reflection] May they know your healing presence and your enduring peace. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We remember with thanksgiving all those who have gone before us in faith. We pray that we, like them, may live lives nourished by Christ, the bread of life, and that we may one day share in the eternal feast in your heavenly kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

So we bring these prayers before you, O God, trusting in your abundant provision. May we always hunger for you, the true bread of life, and thirst for you, the living water. Grant that our faith in you may sustain us through all challenges, and that we may live lives that give glory to your name. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
