  • A prayer for humility and valuing others 2026-10-25

Loving God, source of all wisdom and grace, as we gather in your presence at the close of this liturgical season, we reflect on your enduring promises and the call to live faithfully. Stir our hearts to hear, read, mark, and inwardly digest your word, so that we may hold fast to the hope you have given us in Christ Jesus.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for your Church throughout the world, for our Archbishop Justin, our Bishop Christopher, and for all who lead and serve your people. May we, like Moses, be faithful stewards of your promises, and may your Spirit of wisdom guide us. Grant that, by valuing others above yourselves, we may build up your Church in humility and love.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all nations and their leaders, for justice and peace to prevail. We pray for the leaders of our country and our local authorities, that they may govern with wisdom, integrity, and a genuine concern for the common good, seeking always to serve others rather than their own ambition.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our own parish community, for all our neighbours, and for those in our local area. May we live out the greatest commandments – to love you, O God, with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbours as ourselves. Help us to see beyond selfish ambition and vain conceit, valuing each person as precious in your sight.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We lift up to you all who suffer, all who are unwell in body, mind, or spirit, and all who are grieving. We pray for those we name before you now (pause for names/silence), and for all who are known to us in their need. May they experience your healing presence, your steadfast love, and the comfort of your Spirit, knowing they are valued and cherished.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We commend to your eternal keeping all who have passed from this life. May they rest in peace and rise in glory, knowing the fullness of your everlasting life, which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

May they know your healing presence, your comfort, and your peace. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For those who have died, and for those who mourn them. We give thanks for the lives they lived and for the love they shared. May they rest in peace and rise in glory. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

So we bring these prayers before you, O God, trusting that in all things you work for the good of those who love you. Grant us the grace to live lives worthy of your calling, and to be your hands and feet in the world. Through Jesus Christ, who is our hope and our salvation. Amen.
