  • A prayer for stillness and knowing God's sovereignty 2026-10-14

    Lord God,

You speak, and the earth stills. "Be still, and know that I am God." In the rush and noise of my days, I confess I often forget. My mind races with to-do lists, anxieties, and the endless stream of information that bombards me. I struggle to find that quiet place within, where your presence truly resides.

Today, I hear your invitation to pause. To cease striving, to let go of the need to control, and simply to rest in the truth of your being. You are sovereign, all-powerful, and utterly present, even when I feel my own smallness or the world’s chaos. Help me to cultivate this stillness, not as an escape, but as a deeper engagement with reality.

Lord, I desire to know you more deeply. To move beyond intellectual assent to a profound, lived experience of your presence. When I am still, may I become more aware of your constant work in my life, and in the world around me. May this quiet knowing transform my actions and my outlook, so that I reflect your peace and your strength.

You promise to be exalted in the earth. Sometimes, I feel I am failing in this, caught up in my own concerns. Show me how, in my own small way, I can participate in your exaltation. Help me to live in a way that points to you, not through grand gestures, but through quiet faithfulness, integrity, and love for my neighbour, especially in the ordinary moments of my day.

Lord, help me to be still and know that you are God. Help me to know you more fully, and to reflect your glory in all that I do.

    Amen.

  • A prayer for stillness and knowing God's sovereignty 2026-10-14

Loving God, we gather in your presence as we reflect on your steadfast strength and immeasurable power. In this season of Ordinary Time, help us to move beyond the noise of the world and find stillness in your truth. As we hear your word today, quiet our hearts and minds, that we may know you more deeply and live lives that bring you glory.

We pray for your Church throughout the world. Strengthen your people to be witnesses of your peace and truth in all nations. Inspire church leaders with wisdom and humility, that they may faithfully guide your flock and foster unity in Christ. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for your creation, for this earth which you have made and sustain. May we be wise stewards of all that you have entrusted to us, caring for the environment and all living creatures with reverence and responsibility. We pray for all governments and leaders, that they may govern with justice, compassion, and a deep respect for human dignity. Guide them in their decisions, that they may promote peace and well-being for all. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our local community. Bless all who live and work here. Strengthen our relationships with one another, that we may build a community of welcome, support, and mutual care. Inspire us to serve our neighbours with generosity and to work for justice and peace in our streets and in our homes. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who suffer. Bring your healing touch to those who are ill in body or mind, and grant them comfort and peace. Strengthen those who are facing hardship, loneliness, or fear. May they know your presence with them, and be surrounded by love and practical support. We remember especially those on our parish prayer list: [Insert names, or pause for silent reflection on those held in the church's care]. May they know your presence, your healing, and your peace. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who have died, that they may rest in your eternal peace. We give thanks for their lives and for the witness they bore. May we, too, live lives that honour you and proclaim your glory among the nations and in the earth. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious God, you call us to be still and know that you are God, the source of all power and truth. We trust that you are at work in the world, bringing about your purposes. Receive these prayers, offered in faith and hope, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
